Podcast: Think Fast, Talk Smart

Think Fast, Talk Smart is a podcast by Matt Abrahams, a strategic communication lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. His podcast focuses on communicating clearly, but more specifically, he focuses on being clear at work when you speak or write emails, your personal life, and also your social media life. He wants to help people learn how to be the best communicators in all aspects of life.

One of the topics in his podcast was about managing your reputation. The episode, Communicating Our Multiple Selves: How to Effectively Manage Your Reputation (2020), he invites a guest, Alison Kluger, to discuss managing your reputation in the real world but also in the world of social media. Reputation is extremely important as seen in Communicating Online (Green, 2022), because social media is now the first step in the hiring process, so our reputation online can highly affect our job prospects.

Alison Kluger defines reputation as an echo, because it precedes you before you enter a room and then it follows you after you leave. Moreover, she explains to Abrahams that our reputation online is the same thing; we must be conscious of the content we create and post online, because it follows us the same way as it would in our physical engagements.

Matt Abrahams podcast discusses a wide range of communication hiccups that we may encounter, such as how to use anxiety to your advantage when it comes to communicating. He acknowledges that anxiety is a normal human response, so this may be a topic can be beneficial to several people, including me.
